Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably seen some of the very cool demos of apps folks have written using the Kinect sensor. From demos that let you play the role of an Ogre on-screen, to controlling the universe with your hands, there’s plenty of stuff that’s eye-poppingly cool. But there are fewer demos out there that show practical uses for this technology.

In this presentation, Microsoft Developer Evangelist G. Andrew Duthie will show you how he leveraged the Kinect for Windows SDK beta to deliver a cool and useful session sorter for the inaugural Mid Atlantic Developer Expo. You’ll see how Kinect supports both gestures and voice recognition, as well as how you can leverage existing web functionality within the context of a Kinect-enabled application. You’ll still get some eye candy as well, but hopefully you’ll also get some ideas for how you might use Kinect in a more practical setting as well. G. Andrew Duthie, aka devhammer, is the Developer Evangelist for Microsoft’s Mid-Atlantic States district, where he provides support and education for developers working with the .net development platform. In addition to his work with Microsoft, Andrew is the author of several books on ASP.NET and web development, and has spoken at numerous industry conferences from VSLive! and ASP.NET Connections, to Microsoft’s Professional Developer Conference (PDC) and Tech-Ed. Andrew has been participating in the user group community since way back in 1997, when one of his co-workers dragged him out to the Internet Developers User Group in Tyson's Corner, VA, and he's been hooked ever since. Andrew is also the creator and developer of Community Megaphone, a site designed for promoting and finding developer community events. Andrew can be reached through his blog at http://devhammer.net/.
