It looks like these field trips are becoming a regular thing!

Make:Seattle's next event will be hacking the ZipIt Z2 (a discontinued wireless messaging product in a clamshell formfactor, with 312mhz ARM, backlit keyboard, WiFi, and 2.8" QVGA screen) to run embedded Linux! These are being offered for a pretty incredible price ($12) - hard to pass up!

With a few small accessories (an SD card and a breakout cable) you can load Linux on the Z2, and turn it into a webserver, an informational display, a remote terminal, or whatever else you can come up with!

The items available for group-buy through Make:Seattle are:

$12 - ZipIt Z2: See Make:Seattle site for full specs

$14 - USB SD Card reader: or supply your own (you will need to supply your own SD card in any case) - These are only needed for loading the device, so you would only need one reader for several zipits.

$5 - Docking connector breakout cable: Needed to really unleash the full potential of the ZipIt (USB Host/Client mode, I2C, GPIO)

NOTE: The cut-off for ordering these is Feb 27! Because of the large number of units expected, they are asking that we pre-pay. Keep an eye on the OlyMEGA mailing list for details about a group order!

As usual, this event on OlyMEGA is to organize the carpool. Please also RSVP for the real event on Make:Seattle's Meetup. You can reserve your units when RSVP'ing, or we can batch all of ours up. Please respond accordingly when RSVP'ing to both events.

Make:Seattle's event begins at 10:30am in Bellevue, at the StudentRND hackerspace. We will depart Olympia at 9:00 sharp.

To RSVP for the Make:Seattle event, and for more details about the ZipIt Z2, see http://www.makeseattl...

See you there!
