With the advent of CSS3, supporting multiple browser prefixes and layout versions for Responsive design can mean greater redundancy and more difficulty in terms of creation and maintenance. We?ll be giving an overview of the major CSS preprocessors, LESS, SASS/SCSS/Compass and possibly Stylus if we have time. We?ll also be discussing the pros and cons of each and the advantages and disadvantages of preprocessing either locally or server-side.
Fair warning: You should probably have a passing familiarity with CSS and best practices. If you don?t, this presentation may make your eyes glaze over instead of adding a sparkle to them. On the other hand, if you?re planning on getting started on CSS, this may be good to learn since understanding general preprocessing will probably be considered a core must-have skill in the near future. I?d just recommend jamming on the basics before you come.
We don?t have a location or firm date pinned down just yet. We?re actually looking for someplace in the mid-wilshire/fairfax district area so that it's equally a pain for both Eastsiders and Westsiders to get there instead of just a pain for Westsiders. If anyone knows of or has a .com that would like to host, please let us know. We?re shooting for a presentation at the end of June or beginning of July, midweek in the evening.
