I will be presenting a short talk on the top performance issues related to MySQL (and all relational databases, really) as well has how to analyze and troubleshoot such issues. I will demonstrate some of the tools and commands that MySQL provides for performance analysis.

Attendees will come away with a better understanding of:

  • The number one problem that causes performance issues
  • How to sniff out bad query smells
  • What the MySQL planner is and how a query actually works
  • An abbreviated understanding of relational algebra and relational calculus (simple!)
  • How to use MySQL's built-in tools and commands to help you troubleshoot performance
