For developers (we'll have other meetups for more general interests). Bring your computer and let's get everyone set up for application development. I'll talk about and demonstrate the environment including the IDE and emulator, and if we get time I can cover some fundamentals of the API/framework.

For best results you should have the following: (more details about what we're doing)
• Computer that you can develop on
  • Install the Sun JDK - free download, the Java SE Dev Kit should be adequate, but the JRE that probably came installed with your OS is not.
  • Install Eclipse with the JDT (Java Developer version will work fine). Free download. Eclipse is not absolutely necessary, but the SDK plugin for Eclipse will make it easiest to get started.
  •
You may be able to download and install these at the meetup if we have a network connection, but you'll be much better off if you can do it before coming. I will have the SDK and ADT plugin on a jump drive if there's no network. I'll do my best to help folks who are having problems.

Venue is Eva Perry Library's conference room. I think there's wifi but I can't guarantee there will be a usable signal, so do as much setup as you can before coming.

If anyone is buying a book to get started, please bring it. I have this one, which seems decent but is pre-1.6. I'm keen to get a look at this one, which just came out and apparently covers 2.0.
