Triangle Android Developers

Android is Google's open source mobile OS, the basis for a number of newer smartphones and other network devices.

This group is for Android application developers who want to hang out and hack on code together or share their latest work. Together we will:

  • Improve as developers by sharing lessons learned.
  • Get a new set of eyes looking at problems in our apps.
  • Get user reactions to apps we're working on.
  • Promote developing for the open Android platform as opposed to that other proprietary mobile phone.

Anyone trying to get started as a developer is welcome, as well as anyone needing help with coding or wanting to show off what they've done on Android. If there's enough interest we could also have formal talks and such. Ideas are welcome.

This could be a weekly gathering, or bi-weekly, or monthly - we'll see what folks are interested in.

Events coming up

We don't have any upcoming events for this user group. Do you know this group? If so, why not submit a future event? We also support iCal, EventBrite and Meetup feeds.

Past events

  • Monthly meetup: State of the Android

15-16 Apr 2010 in Raleigh, United States

This will be a talk about what's up with Android today: *Major devices that run Android - features, carriers *Rumors and announcements of upcoming devices *The Android Open Source Project itself *Applications and the Android Market

  • Android general interest

    Fri, 22 Jan 2010, 00:00 - 02:00 in Chapel Hill, United States

A lot of the fun of these meetups seems to be just getting folks together who are interested in or knowledgeable about Android. Discussions always come up about the carriers, rumors of new devices, open source, quirks of the platform, and so forth. Everyone likes to share around the devices and books. So let's have a meetup for all of that! And if I can get confirmation, this will also be an opportunity to see what the little-known Google office in Chapel Hill looks like.

  • Application Developers - Platform fundamentals

    Fri, 8 Jan 2010, 00:00 - 02:00 in Carrboro, United States

I will give an introduction to the fundamentals of application development on the Android platform. I will talk about the most important concepts - Activities, lifecycles, resources, Intents, etc. - and walk through developing a simple application. I will try to keep the time for this to about an hour - please show up on time.

  • Application development meetup (hack afternoon)

    Sat, 12 Dec 2009, 19:00 - 21:00 in Cary, United States

For developers - we'll have other meetups for more general interest. Bring the code for the Android app you're working on and we'll all down beverages and swear at Eclipse together. Great way for those of you from the Thursday get-started meetup to continue the momentum. I thought I'd try for a leisurely Saturday afternoon at the same Panera as our first meetup, hopefully not too busy at that time. I'm not expecting a crowd for this one, want to actually get some work done.

  • Developer setup-fest (SDK and IDE)

    Fri, 11 Dec 2009, 00:00 - 02:00 in Apex, United States

For developers (we'll have other meetups for more general interests). Bring your computer and let's get everyone set up for application development. I'll talk about and demonstrate the environment including the IDE and emulator, and if we get time I can cover some fundamentals of the API/framework. For best results you should have the following: (more details about what we're doing)[list]*Computer that you can develop on
