The NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge invites developers around the world to build innovative, non-commercialized location-based services (LBS) that work with mobile phones and/or wireless handheld devices using dynamic positioning technology and NAVTEQ® map data. Now in its fifth year, the Global LBS Challenge has become the premier event in the LBS industry and a global symbol of LBS innovation and opportunity.
Participants in the Global LBS Challenge have the chance to compete for a shared prize pool of cash and data licenses worth $3 million US, as well as gain priceless exposure for their applications. Winners are chosen from three regions: Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA), The Americas and Asia-Pacific (APAC).
Entries are judged by a distinguished panel comprised of executives from leading wireless carriers, industry experts and venture capitalists. Participants can submit their entries in five categories—Content, Enterprise, Entertainment/Leisure, Navigation and Social Networking.
Eight previous Global LBS Challenge participants have received venture capital funding, and nine past Global LBS Challenge winners have launched commercial applications on major wireless carriers, including Verizon Wireless and Sprint.
The Global LBS Challenge Awards Ceremony for the EMEA region will be during the 3GSM Conference, Barcelona, Spain, February 12, 2008 at Poble Espanyol de Montjuic. See www.LBSChallenge.com for details.
