ER/Studio aids data security and compliance

ER/Studio 7.1 is the latest version of Embarcadero’s data architecture and database design solution for the discovery, documentation and re-use of data assets through visual data models. In this release ER/Studio builds on its enterprise model management and collaboration capabilities to help organisations take a global approach to two important aspects of data management: reducing data security risks, and enhancing data model quality. It lets data architects facilitate compliance and reduce the risk of inappropriate data use through the improved identification, classification, and communication of policies around sensitive data. In addition, the 7.1 release improves model consistency and quality by providing validation rules to enforce company-specific standards and practices across the enterprise.

To aid regulatory compliance and reduce the risk of data theft and tampering, organisations are formalising data governance processes. In support of these initiatives, ER/Studio 7.1 introduces properties to categorise and label data and objects according the level of security and privacy that should be applied to that information. When coupled with ER/Studio’s existing analytical abilities and comprehensive reporting, organisations can more easily discover and document sensitive data.

ER/Studio 7.1 also introduces full session undo/redo to allow modellers to reverse any unwanted actions performed while designing models, as well as a number of additional workflow updates geared to streamline workflow throughout the product. In addition to these new productivity features, ER/Studio 7.1 deepens its existing support for Oracle 10gR2, IBM DB2 z/OS v 8, MySQL 5.0, Sybase ASE 12.5.3a and Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and introduces new support for Sybase IQ, a popular platform for data warehousing and decision support systems.
