In an attempt to encourage developers to write and develop code so that banner ads can be more easily integrated into applications, mobile advertising network madvertise has open sourced its two SDKs for iOS and Android.
Available from github.com, the SDKS are packaged with what the company gas called a “suitable” library, which developers can include in their apps and which keeps space free for in-app advertising.
“Opening up our code is intended to provide additional monetising opportunities for both applications and mobile websites. We also hope it will help address developer’s individual requirements and continue our mission of transparency in the market,” said madvertise CIO and co-founder Thomas Hille.
Worldwide mobile application store downloads are forecast to reach 17.7 billion downloads in 2011, a 117 percent increase from an estimated 8.2 billion downloads in 2010, according to Gartner, Inc. By the end of 2014, Gartner forecasts over 185 billion applications will have been downloaded from mobile app stores, since the launch of the first one in July 2008 -- so, logically, a significant developer opportunity exists in this space.
