files and folders in linux

  Hi everyone:
  
  This question is about c++ for linux.
  
  Do you know any way, to get all the names of the files and folders inside a certain folder, into an array of strings.
  
  Just like the LS function, but I can not use system calls, and i need to get the names into an array of strings.
  
  Like the folder /home/myname/bin contains the files aaa.txt + bbb.txt and the folder bin2
  
  How can I explore this files using c?

  dont think there is a straight forward way to do this, I've heard of dir.h and directory.h which are pretty standard, this might help:
