DirectX / OpenGL

    Hi,
Valkyr and WebSoftware have kindly suggested that I use DirectX or OpenGL to program a game.
I am very eager to use these ... but will I need any special software for them? or is Visual C++ ok? ...
... also does anyone know which of them would be easier to use, as I am quite to new to programming?
... and are there any good tutorials on the net? because I can't afford to buy a book at the moment ....
    many thanks,
    - OJ

    hey,

well i've tried the same thing and found that DirectX was easier to learn to start with.

thushan(aka websoftware) has written lots of tutorials on some sites about DirectX and OpenGL but unfortunetly none are posted on this site. I saw something which he did for his school with OpenGL which looks really sweet. So you should ask him for more information about it.

But in my humble opinion i guess Microsoft's DirectX steals the show!

Yeah VC++ is all you need.

One small correction. In order to program using DirectX you also need a copy of the DirectX SDK, which, by the way, you can download from MS.

mujanoojapoojawhatda>Shhhhh..... whispers dont tell everyone man! lol

yeah you need the SDK.... but take a look at some engines which have been developed by others if you dont want to start with it all by yoruself!

One really fabo engine is TrueVision... http://www.truevision3dsdk.com

Take a look around the Developer area for DirectX and download their samples as well read the articles at MSDN about using DriectX and various functions features etc.

    Good luck!
