Longer than a StartupWeekend.com...Less commitment and risk than a Start-up.
This is not your typical meetup group. I want to get a group of people together who will go from thinking of new ideas to building full production websites using Ruby on Rails and related web technologies. This will not be a meet and greet or a presentation meetup. We are looking for members who can work together on building websites.
Positions:
DeveloperSys Admin: You can set up the servers and make sure the tubes are not clogged to the Internet. You run the tech show.
DeveloperBackend: Youre the person who lays the solid foundation upon which everything else depends. Everyone else will be trying to get you to code up their brilliant idea after the weekend; and with a budget, you could.
DeveloperArchitect: Youre the person that comes up with the overarching vision for the project. You fit tab A into slot B.
DeveloperFront End: You make things look good, working directly with the User Experience team to make everything rock for the user. CSS is your friend, and IE bugs are the enemy in which you destroy. User rebellion will be directed toward you.
PR: You like telling the story and youre awesome at keeping the message alive. Craft buzzword packed blog posts, dazzle them with brilliance or baffle them with bull.
User Experience: You know that all your friends are going to be using what you just helped create. You know that unless its user-friendly, your friends wont talk to you. You fear losing your friends.
Designer: Someone has to add the drop shadow and gradient to that interface design, you will do it for the site design, banners, business cards and logo.
Legal: You make certain that all the is are dotted and all the ts are crossed and help your project move forward after the weekend.
We need to get a core team together to work out the details of how to setup a software repository, web hosting, task management, etc. Once we get going, meetings will be twice per week, once during a weeknight and once on the weekend.
We are looking for space where we can have frequent private recurring meetings with Internet access, so if you know of a place let us know.
If you work on other peoples websites for a living and want to build one for yourself, with other like minded professionals to round out your missing skills, this is the group to join.
