The Budapest Functional Programming Group

Meet with other local FPers and share your experiences with F#, Haskell, OCaml, Erlang, Scala, or your other favourite FP language. We are looking to discuss good ideas, ways to utilize FP to its best, and commercial uses. Whether you are from academia or industry, if you are an FPer at heart your place is here!

  • FP-BUD Discussion Night - Compositional Type Checking via Type Classes

    Tue, 22 Mar 2011, 19:00 - 21:00 in Budapest, Hungary

Compositional Type Checking via Type Classesby Dr. Érdi GergÅ‘ (Cactus)Abstract:Statically typed functional programming languages usually employ a version of the Hindley-Milner type system extended with ad-hoc polymorphism. When the type checker detects an error, it has to report it to the programmer, to help in fixing the bug. However, usage of algorithms W and M, commonly used to type-check languages with Hindley-Milner type systems, can result in cryptic error messages.
