Visual Basic is the main VB program. It lets you create your own applications for running on your own, or another PC. The programs you create can be used to manipulate databases, files, the internet or almost anything else you want it to do! There are 3 editions of VB, which are explained later (see VB Editions), which you can purchase starting at around £90.
