"This book is by far the best computer programming book I have ever bought. You can go into my upstairs closet and find 20-30 books that I have purchased since the days of VB6.... All together, they could not add up to as much information as you have given me in the first 11 chapters of this book." (A developer's comment on the previous edition of Murach's ASP.NET)Already know how to code Visual Basic 2008 desktop applications? Then, you're ready to master web programming with the 3.

I have sued Murach's version of the book in c# using VS 20005, and have learnt Java Servelts written by Murach in the same style. It's the style that makes Murach's book unique. So let me elaborate on the style. A series of CONNECTIVE "how to topics" are presented in the following format: a discussion or narrative of the topic on one side of the page while the other side has code or diagrams that correspond to the narrative. All the books have sufficient theory and hands on exercises. If you're a code junky this style is not for you. If you're looking for a story this style is not for you. If you are an inspiring software engineer this style is for you. That is because Murach's books have three important traits: The How is answered with a What and Why, written in a style that can bring you up to speed with a new technology to Analyze and Build! Yup! there a few are typos and code issues, nothing extensive, compared to other books. I wish Murach would write more advanced books in a similar style.

This programming book is really effective assuming you have Visual Basic 2008. It provides a strong foundation for the asp.net programming language, with 1000 pages of learning for a reasonable price.

I'm a former Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT). I've now retired from the traveling consultant and trainer role to settle down with a single company. I'm still immersed in Microsoft technologies and I find the Murach series of books to be great learning tools especially for those techies new to a particular technology like ASP.NET and VB 2008.

Murach's ASP.NET 3.5 web programming with VB 2008 will teach you the important skills you need (and then some) for creating professional IIS / ASP.NET-based websites. Although I am very experienced on the technologies in question already, I'm always interested in reading new books that appear to be able to teach me something new. After reading/researching other books from WROX, APRESS (both of which I like) I decided to add Murach to my list of publishers for great learning resources on Microsoft technologies.

I'm looking forward to Murach's SQL 2008 book due out shortly.

No one book will be able to make someone a master on a product. Some of the most valuable learning you'll do is on the job writing applications and websites. However, well written and content-rich books such as this one are important for getting started.

Enjoy!

This book is by far the best computer book I've ordered on Amazon. Joel Murach, founder of Murach books, is a genius. I am biting my nails waiting for every payday to come to order my next Murach book. By the time I am through reading them all I expect to be sitting somewhere on a beach on some weekend making lots of money just because I had a great crew of teachers through these publications. Now if only college were such an inexpensive and thorough way to learn! I could have skipped out on all my classes and stuck with this series and would have learned a lot more.

I read the rave reviews and bought the book. I cannot get the Chapter 3 exercise to load despite trying all the obvious permutations. I wonder if this book was sufficiently road tested.
