Title: Sourcing Investments in Private Companies

Event Type: Private Company Analysis and Valuation
Audience Level: Executive, Technical

Agenda:
David Teten, Scott Lichtman, and Tim Olson will lead a discussion on business intelligence techniques and challenges they are addressing in building their business, Navon Partners (www.dealorigination.com) .   Navon helps private equity funds to identify proprietary deals which are predictably attractive long-term investments.  Their rigorous, data-driven process is modeled on the process used by quantitative hedge funds.

The speakers:
David Teten, CEO,  was previously a Managing Director with Evalueserve; Founder and CEO of Circle of Experts, an investment research firm he sold to Evalueserve; Founder and CEO of GoldNames, an investment bank serving the internet domain name asset class; and a Bear Stearns M&A banker for the technology industry.  He  is also Chairman of Harvard Business School Angels.

Scott Lichtman, COO, was most recently a Managing Director at Evalueserve; and COO of Circle of Experts.  Earlier, Scott led Messaging Products and Marketing at Communicator Inc.; served as Senior Director of Marketing at InterWorld, e-commerce engine for Nike, Disney, GTE and others; was Senior Director of Strategic Marketing at Oracle Corporation; and Advanced IT Strategy Consultant at Deloitte Consulting.

Tim Olson, Head of Engineering, has worked with employers and clients such as Apple, Morgan Stanley, TIAA/CREF, HBO, and NHL.com, as well as a series of startups.  Most recently, Tim served as CTO of ResponsePath and Director of Engineering at Publishing Data Management .  He also worked with Media6Degrees.

The company:
Navon is building a proprietary technology platform, built on social media, web scraping, and other Internet technologies.  Among the challenges they are working on: obtaining data on private companies; semantic analysis including entity extraction and linkage; co-reference problem for both executives and companies; data cleaning and canonicalization; signal extraction; and multivariate modeling.
