Thanks to our Pluralsight sponsorship, our group has access to their full course library! See http://www.pluralsight-training.net/microsoft/courses/index for details.

On Wednesday evenings, I've been showing these videos where I work currently, at the CDC. A handful of us there have selected courses of interest, including Test First Development, Behavior Driven Development, MVC, etc.

I'm pleased to announce we now have a standing Live Meeting and a Call-In that I can use to invite external members of our group to join us on!

*Important*: I've limited the RSVP count for now because we do have some local CDC people calling in, but I may be able to get more "seats" if enough people are interested.

How to View and Listen

Unless otherwise noted, there will be a standing item on the calendar for Wednesday evenings between 5:30 and 7:30. Please join us "virtually" through Live Meeting and a free Call-In line to watch selected courses together:

1. Call 1-877-937-1565, and use 591208 as your PIN followed by the pound (#) sign.

2. Log in to Live Meeting: https://www.livemeeting.com/cc/cdc/join (Meeting ID: 224B9Z and Entry Code: scrum)

Courses Schedule

If you like, please call in tomorrow, 8/17 to catch the tail end of Principles of Object Oriented Design, taught by Steve Smith and based largely on Bob Martin's books.

On 8/24/ and 8/31 we'll cover the Test First Development Part 1 (3:33) course, taught by David Starr and Scott Allen.

After that, we plan to study Test First Development Part 2 (2:43) (it covers Story Testing, BDD, etc), and then either move into MVC or perhaps pick up the brand new course entirely devoted to Inversion of Control (3:17), taught by John Sonmez.

8/17/2011: Principles of OO Design

  • Dependency Inversion I (42)
  • Dependency inversion II (27)
  • Don't Repeat Yourself I (34) (time permitting)
  • Don't Repeat Yourself II (31) (t.p.)
  • Don't Repeat Yourself III (28) (t.p.)

8/24/2011:  Test First Dev I

  • Intro (25)
  • Writing Unit Tests I (48)
  • Writing Unit Tests II (48)

8/31/2011:  Test First Dev I

  • Isolating Code (34)

Following these, we'll decide as a group which courses are most interesting and prioritize those for the group viewing. If you are inclined to buy your own membership from Pluralsight, go ahead and enjoy! It's not too expensive.

If you have any questions or comments, please email me. I'm looking forward to this.

Thank you,

Josh
