Learn the basics of the wildly popular jQuery JavaScript library. The class will cover everything you need to get started with jQuery, JavaScript best practices, and how to debug your code. The jQuery portion will cover:

  • Where to get the library from
  • How to include it on your pages
  • How to select elements on the page
  • How to traverse and manipulate page elements
  • Some utility/helper functions
  • Very brief intros to Ajax and Events.

Learning materials will be provided for the class and access to recorded audio/visual screencasts will be available shortly after the class.

Requirements:
A basic understanding of JavaScript would be nice but not necessary if you have some web development experience already.
An understanding of CSS, specifically selectors, would definitely help as well.
You may want to read Professional JavaScript for Web Developers before the meetup.

The class will run from 9am to 4pm. There will be an hour long lunch (BYOB).

It will be held in downtown Oakland, CA near City Center. The location is above 12th St. Bart station. There are plenty of food places in the area.
