-Jas

BuildOff is setup to get things done. Connect, share, and get help. Save all that time from figuring things out yourself which end up taking minutes in the end.

What to bring:

- A clear step you need to find, or take.

- Laptop

How's BuildOff for you? BuildOff is about quality time with your product minus distractions.  It's guilt free time to get the things done that you've been meaning to.

To have the uber-productive day of your dreams, bring 2 to 3 really clear things to complete, even if that means finding your next step.  You'll write them on the white board, get busy, get the help you need, or give someone a hand if you have the time.

Attendance is free. We often go for lunch, but you're welcome to bring one instead. To make sure there's have enough chairs setup, kindly RSVP.

Thing will start at 11 AM.  If you're around earlier feel free to ping or text as a few usually come early.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and input.

What is BuildOff?

BuildOff is about you. When building a business, having good, supportive company on the same path as you always helps. Show up with a couple of things to tackle (including finding your next steps), and get them done.

BuildOff is a  regular get-together of the  Edmonton Lean Startup Circle.  We are web entrepreneurs, spending real working time on developing our product(s), together, in a shared space.

It doesn't matter how far along anyone is, we're committed to our own progress and supporting each other with their progress.   We're looking to find, learn about, and work on the next steps in our products.. and get it done. Our goal is to create and share our collective experience on how to make sustainable products in Edmonton.

If the work you need to take is research and making a decision, do that.  If you need to build some features, do that.  If you need to work on your marketing, do that.   Need real, meaningful, actionable, live input from others with experience on the same path as you?  We have that covered.

The Format (so far..):

The format for the day has evolved every event a little. Why? We're kind of our own audience. You could say we're pivoting towards what we need, as we find it.

By focussing on attendees (us), we make sure that the time we take to get together for BuildOffs benefits us, every single time. It feels awesome to go home having made meaningful progress on our products.

If you've been thinking of coming out, you're welcome to jump in. We're approachable, keep in touch with each other on our mailing list and like people who are generous and sharing of their time and knowledge, because we do the same.

We've started an irc channel to talk through out the day to be considerate of not interrupting each other but getting live feedback on design and features via chat for anyone who's available.  It's been real nice.

Our Daily Schedule so far:

11:00 AM - Bring and share your goals (on the wall) for the day with each other. Ask/give help as it's needed.  Our main goal is to help ourselves and everyone who's attending.

11 AM - 1(ish): Burn #1 - Work, work, work.

1 - 2 PM (ish): Lunch. We break out for lunch near by, for about an hour. The Downtown Farmer's market is a few steps away.  Lunch is about an hour. Some of us get back early, some later. During lunch we often discuss any problems or we faced, get/give ideas and solutions, get recharged and head back.

2 - 4 PM (ish): Burn #2 - Work, work, work.

4 PM - 4:30 PM, If you feel like it, take a break or give/get advice.

4:30 - 5 PM: Burn #3 - Work, work, work.

What next? Some of us leave, some of us eat, some of us stick around until we realize we really did get enough done to call it a day.
