In the 11 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, technology has transformed the emergency response sector in numerous ways. Understandably, the majority of technology investments have been in prevention. However, it is not possible to prevent all emergencies and there is a growing need to enhance response operations.

Over the past five years, mobile devices have exploded in popularity and can now serve as a new, incredibly useful tool for emergency response. This technical strategy that has not been fully addressed by Silicon Valley's engineering minds. While there may be many reasons for this, a key hurdle is domain knowledge.

This Meetup is designed to instigate a dialog among domain experts, investors, entrepreneurs, and engineers. We will attempt to demystify some of the domain and provide a networking opportunity for various experts to meet and learn from each other. We hope this will lead to creation of teams that build systems to exploit mobile devices in order to significantly transform selective aspects of emergency response operations.
