It is time to welcome someone from across the Atlantic who is very well known in the Scala community. We'll get together and let Nathan Hamblen be part of our meetup.
One just needs to look at his Github (https://github.com/n8han) space and the many successful projects like,
Unfiltered, a toolkit for servicing HTTP requests in Scala
Dispatch, a library for asynchronous HTTP interaction
conscript, a tool for installing and updating Scala software programs and
giter8, a tool to apply templates defined on github
to know that he lives the Scala promise.
Recently he has finished the reboot of Dispatch that has some commonality with the topic of our last meetup: The promise of a rosy future
Nathan Hamblen presents Dispatch 0.9 - a rewrite. What were the motivations for the rewrite, and how has it been received by the user community? Was the polarizing use of symbols as method names maintained? This talk explains the thinking behind the reboot of Dispatch, and will demonstrate how to exploit its new "asynchronous by default" style of interaction in your own code.
Do come with tonnes of questions to ask Nathan about the state of Scala in NYC and the NE of USA.
Let us meet in numbers, bring our own stories and book the night for some celebration of Scala.
PS: Nathan works for Meetup.
