The release of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 greatly expands the kinds of experiences a .NET developer can produce.  Whether you're building delightful consumer apps or rich, business-focused apps, you'll get the most value developing for these platforms if you're not bogged down building the same glue that connects your application to your data over and over again.  Parse provides a backend for your apps that will get you up-and-running quickly and painlessly -- storing and querying for objects in the cloud, managing user authentication, protecting access to critical data, integrating with social networks, uploading and retrieving files, and more.  In this talk, we'll use Parse's .NET-based Windows SDK to build a Windows Store app.  With the Parse SDK's support for LINQ and the new await and async keywords in C# 5, you'll see just how simple it is to build a great app in no time, and how your app can evolve beyond a strictly Windows-based experience to support iOS, Android, and virtually any other platform thanks to its various native SDKs and REST API.

David is a geek, and it shows. He first became interested in framework development working for Microsoft's Silverlight team, where he gained a healthy appreciation for the nuances of building software for other developers to consume. After working on Google's Chrome team, David found his way to Parse, bringing him right back to the developer-facing world he had grown to love.
In addition to David's work for the tech giants, David has found ways to combine mobile development with his hobbies, building a few successful apps for Android and Windows Phone that serve the a cappella and barbershop singing communities. His app development ultimately led him to Parse, and once he saw what they were up to, he had to become involved.
David is a Siebel Scholar and graduate with high honors from UC Berkeley, holding a B.A. and an M.Sc. in Computer Science.
