In December we have Adib Saikali of Programming Mastery to lead us in a discussion about what kind of leadership is needed in technical projects and how we can develop it. Projects that lack strong leadership often flounder and fail to meet expectations. Join us as Adib explores what it takes to lead in a technical environment. Following the discussion we'll have round-the-room introductions and then open the floor for networking. This is a networking event so bring your business/contact cards and a story or two to share.

About the Presentation:

In most IT departments, several key technical staff contribute significantly more than others to the success of projects. These high-performing individuals often have the ability to raise the skills of those around them and, because of this, they multiply the productivity and performance of technical teams and raise the effectiveness of the whole IT organization.

In this presentation you will learn a model of technical leadership that you can use as roadmap to developing your technical leadership skills to become one of those people who raise the performance of those who they work with.

Adib has contributed his work as a technical author to many publications such as Oracle Magazine, and has also spoken at several industry conferences including JavaOne. His vast technical knowledge and project experience combined with his ability to identify, research and educate others allow him to create effective training and mentoring solutions to propel his clients forward and achieve unprecedented results. Adib holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from University of Waterloo.

About the Date:

We're running this the day after the social meeting because, well, that's how it worked out. Things came together late and we almost didn't have a presentation event in December. Also, we don't want to hold an event too close to the holidays, it's just too busy, so our options were limited to start with. So we'll try this out.

Through the holidays remember that the strength of our network is a product of our combined contributions so get out there and find ways to help the people that you meet. After all, the spirit of giving is at the root of positive networking, and I'm not talking wrapped gifts. ;-)

Have a great holiday season.

Sincerely,

-- Guy
