I'm pleased to announce our first WordPressNYC Meetup of 2010!
This year we have a new venue thanks to Sun Microsystems, and a new format, thanks to the feedback our members gave in the forum, and some things I learned at WordCampNYC.
- Main Event: of course we're going to have a primary presentation, and this year we have more speakers interested in participating then ever before. I also expect more intermediate and advanced presentations as well.
- Genius Bar: Each meetup will have an expert in WordPress running a genius bar to provide one-on-one help.
- Breakout sessions: In the unconference style, after the main event, we'll break out into various rooms based on group interests. This is totally flexible and unplanned.
- *New Start Time: Since we have more to cover, the meetups will now start at 6:30pm. Still on the third Tuesday of each month.

Wordpress is constantly evolving and changing to make things better for users and developers. So it goes without saying that keeping your theme up to date with new versions of WordPress is always important. Sometimes this only requires a few function/template tag adjustments. In other cases it requires a complete overhaul to the core functionality of the theme. The latter happens to be the case with a theme that Allan is currently re-developing called AutoFocus.
Autofocus is a super cool theme with a unique look. Though it's primarily designed for photographers wanting to showcase their work. Learning the concepts behind Autofocus can improve your own website.
Allan originally released it in March 2009 and considering some of the improvements to WordPress 2.9, it is now time for an upgrade. In this session, Allan show you some of the thinking behind getting AutoFocus updated and how it utilizes some of the new features in WordPress 2.9.
