Borland makes development routine

Borland Core SDP (Software Delivery Platform) is described as an integrated, role-based software delivery platform. Previously code-named ‘Project Themis’, it is designed to deliver a collaborative architecture in all phases of the software development lifecycle. It provides a customised work environment for analysts, architects, developers and testers – optimised for specific job functions – yet integrated across the other roles. It aims to be another step in making development a routine business activity, and as Borland points out, this is very much needed as less than a third of software projects today actually succeed. Rather, more than half come in over budget, and 84 percent suffer from time overruns (2004 CHAOS Report, The Standish Group).

Role-based, collaborative development provides each role within the application lifecycle with integrated tools designed to facilitate individual contributions and generate a workflow across job functions. Core SDP integrates technology from Borland’s existing ALM products (including CaliberRM, Together, JBuilder, StarTeam, and Optimizeit) with new cross-platform technology, to produce a role-based system. Role modules integrate in a server environment to allow the management of changes across roles, the collection of ALM metrics, enabling traceability and knowledge management across distributed teams.
