OpenEdge is a platform for developing service-oriented business applications. The latest version, OpenEdge 10.1, has a new Eclipse-based IDE and auditing services intended to meet the needs of finance, healthcare and other industries affected by audit and compliance requirements.

New features include:

• A new IDE based on the standard Eclipse framework, which provides the ability to assemble service-oriented applications from a catalogue of components and services.
• Built-in connectivity to messaging and integration components from Sonic Software, providing support for heterogeneous environments.
• Auditing services at the application and database level, which extend the concept of security and audit integrity with mechanisms that ensure that the audit trails of transactions are themselves secure and tamper-proof.
• New failover/failback capabilities, combined with more online administration capabilities and streamlining of routine maintenance tasks, allowing for more control of the data management environment.
• New language constructs and mechanisms designed to make it easier to design and implement reusable service components.
