Windows 8 pre-beta could arrive next week

There is beginning to be a clearer picture around the upcoming pre-sales release schedule for the latest evolution of the Windows OS.

While it has become fairly clear that the Build event coming up in September will be an event completely focussed on Windows 8, it is also expected that not only will it feature a beta release, but it is anticipated that this will be the only beta before the expected release of the final retail version towards the middle of next year.

There are also rumours of an early pre-beta "CTP" (Community Technology Preview) build of Windows 8 emerging at the WPC 2011 event as soon as next week, but it is unclear whether this will be a general release or limited to the attendees of the event.

Following the beta release at Build in September, there is expected to be a Release Candidate in January 2012, RTM (release to manufacturers, the companies who make computers to sell) in April, then a consumer release in Autumn 2012.
