functions vs Stored Procs

sql server New Zealand

HI all, I have read many conflicting things regarding stored procedures vs functions when returning result sets.

Some say use Stored Procs to do inserts & updates & other tasks & use functions to return result sets & other say use stored procs for all (possible because functions is new and only in sql 2k).

I would like ot know for the microsoft sql 2k exam which to use when wanting to return a result set.

    Thanks for you time.
