Need help to configure wireless router

    Hello everyone,

I got a problem on how to configure my LAN in our computer lab.  I purchased a 24 ports switch and DI-524  Wireless Router.  I'm planning to use both so that if someone will bring lap top he/she can immediately use intenet without physically connecting the CAT5 wire to his/her laptop that is using the wireless router.  But there was a problem when I connect the internet line to the wireless router then to my switch then to the PC I cannot open the internet but the lap top can use internet meaning the wireless router is ok.  If i connect the internet connection directly to my switch my workstation can use internet and obviously the lap top cannot use it.

I'm very happy if you can help me bout this matter.  I really need to configure this wireless router and switch so than both can be use in our compute lab.

    Thanks,

    neo

Have you plugged the network cable FROM the wireless router into the UPLINK port on your switch? This is usually the last port (i.e. 24 in your case), or it might be a separate port labelled "Uplink".

Unlike hubs, where you can plug this internet connection into any port and every other computer on the hub would get the internet, switches are smart, and so you need to put the internet connection into the port it's expecting it - the uplink port.

    Hope that helps,

Also, even if you have a separate uplink port, you will still lose one of the other ports - there will probably be a line joining the uplink port to one of the other regular ports (probably 24) - you can't use both of these at the same time. Therefore, once you've joined your wireless router to the switch, it becomes a 23-port switch...
