i have  an access 2002 database being used for logging calls to a helpdesk. there are 10 users. 5 users connect through VPN and 5 are on-site. i have a copy of the database on each users computer. the tables are in a backend database on a server. when all the users are inputting logs, they get the error above when trying to go to a new record. does anyone have suggestions on how to aleviate this?

It sounds initially like an issue of "Primary Keys".  When you created the linked tables did you create a primary key combination?  If necessary, you will have to re-import the links and select one or more columns as the unique identifiers.  Is this a "permanent" error or one that appears only on occasion?
