In The Brain of David Pollak, What is David Pollak going to say? - London, United Kingdom
happened 7 years ago
Usually people plan talks. David Pollak does so only grudgingly. But this is an evening talk. This is a talk where you're in David's brain (a scary place on the best of days.) So, what is David going to say? Who knows. Maybe he'll be boring and talk about Lift 3 and its support for converting Scala into JavaScript. Maybe he'll be outrageous and say scandalous things about other web frameworks (like the fact the Django was actually coded by goats... David has documentary evidence.

TDD, where did it all go wrong - Abingdon, United Kingdom
happened 8 years ago
Organised by NxtGenUG
Ian Cooper returns to Oxford to enlighten us on where TDD went wrong.Since Kent Beck wrote the book on TDD in 2002 a lot of words have been dedicated to the subject. But many of them propogated misunderstandings of Kent's original rules so that TDD practice bears little resemblance to Kent's original ideas. Key misunderstandings around what do I test, what is a unit test, and what is the 'public interface' have led to test suites that are brittle, hard to read, and do not support easy refac.

In The Brain of David Laribee, The New Old School Agile Developer - London, United Kingdom
happened 8 years ago
There’s an awful tendency in agile circles to place process considerations over fundamental technical practices. I can't bag on Scrum, it’s done a lot of good for the software development world, but I do think it’s time we refocus on programming fundamentals and treat developers as first class members on agile teams. In this session, David makes his case for a return to solid design and development principles.
