This Meetup is a fork of the original, and it 'costs' $2.50 for each meeting.

The original Meetup is now called Olympia Web Designers and can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=40532236695 The original is a 'free' group.

Why does this Meetup 'cost'? What does the money 'do'?

The money does 2 things, 1 mundane, the other amazing.

1) The money helps pay the annual expense of maintaining a Meetup account and the cost of providing refreshments. Notice that it only helps, as it doesn't actually cover the complete cost. This is a rather mundane use of the money.

2) A small fee also eliminates the bored. It changes the psychological perspective of the group by raising the level of individual commitment. Those who come, actually want to be there! Amazing!
