Not Just Ruby

Not Just Ruby is a cross-discipline group focusing on the Ruby programming language, with an open invitation to all parallel interests such as web development, personal productivity, agile project management, databases, system administration, accounting, business development, and just about anything else that might be useful.

There are four parts to each meeting, along the lines of most technology gatherings:

  • A dinner consisting of pizza and drinks.
  • A 30-45 minute opening act while people eat.
  • A headliner presenting in depth information about a specific topic.
  • The opportunity to socialize afterwords at a local drinking establishment.

If you or someone you know might be interested in sponsoring dinner in return for publicity, please have them contact us!

If you are interested in presenting a topic to the group, please contact us. We're a low-stress group, and presenting a topic can improve your speaking skills and professional reputation while you share your knowledge with peers.

  • NJR November Meeting: Deploying with Vlad

    Wed, 2 Dec 2009, 02:00 - 04:00 in Colorado Springs, United States

We still need people to man (or woman) up and give a featured talk, both now and in the future. Remember, it doesn't need to be about Ruby, just tangentially related. [divider] Kevin McFadden (that's me) will be demonstrating how to deploy a Ruby on Rails application with Vlad the Deployer. Deploying an application can be a real hassle. For PHP, my methodology has been something like tar -cvf ~/deployable/project-yyyymmdd.tgz `"find -mtime -[days since last deploy] | grep -v [git|svn

    Wed, 21 Oct 2009, 01:00 - 03:00 in Colorado Springs, United States

Hey Guys, Winter, I mean Fall, is here, and it's time for regular meetups again. Julio Barros, of the Colorado iPhone Developers Meetup, will be giving a talk on web development with Sinatra. Sinatra is a lightweight, ruby, web framework that is great for small projects, though I have seen some people start creating a more rails like directory structure to handle larger ones. Plus we'll hopefully have some good stories from the DeRailed meeting on Sept 23rd.

Brooke and I will be hosting a viewing of Cube. Brooke and I will be providing some snacks, bring some drinks if you want something specific. I'll have a 6 of Laughing Lab, or maybe we'll score one of those mini-kegs from Trinity. Email me if you are interested in attending a hack night.

  • Not Just Ruby June Meetup: Back to Ruby and Rails

    Wed, 17 Jun 2009, 01:00 - 03:00 in Colorado Springs, United States

OK, we've been bouncing around topics recently, but I want to spend the next few months concentrating on our core: Ruby and Ruby on Rails. I have a few ideas for upcoming talks, and I'll probably decide which one I'll be doing closer to the meeting date. If you want to give a talk, I know Brooke has some, please let me know and we'll make sure you get some stage time! Two of my talks are similarly titled: "What's neat about Ruby?" and "What's neat about Ruby on Rails?".
