The September meeting of the MUGL will feature the one and only Norm Walsh (@ndw). Norm works for MarkLogic and lives in Massachusetts. He was already scheduled to be in the UK for XML Summer School in Oxford. Luckily we were able to snag him to come speak to us a few days beforehand.
Norm will be discussing an XQuery-based REST API that he and others at MarkLogic have developed.
Here's a bit of Norm's bio, lifted from his own site (he's far too modest):
Norman Walsh is a Lead Engineer at MarkLogic Corporation where he works with the Application Services team. Norm is also an active participant in a number of standards efforts worldwide: at the W3C, he is chair of the XML Processing Model Working Group, co-chair of the XML Core Working Group, and an active member of the XSLT Working Group. At OASIS, he is chair of the DocBook Technical Committee.
With more than a 15 years of industry experience, Norm is well known for his work on DocBook and a wide range of open source projects. He is the author of DocBook 5: The Definitive Guide .
Before joining Mark Logic, Norm was an XML Standards Architect at Sun Microsystems, Inc.
What this bio doesn't tell you is that Norm is an all-round great guy, a cool dude and someone you definitely don't want to pass up an opportunity to meet.
In addition, we will have another short presentation by Lee Pollington.
If you are interested in speaking at this or a future meeting of the MUGL, please contact us ([email protected], or tweet to @mugl) and we will get it sorted.
