Using innovative technologies to solve business problems
Description: There are lots of new technologies available to developers. Learning a new technology can be a challenge, but a greater challenge is determining how and where to implement the technology. Businesses have lots of ideas for products or how to improve their business. One great challenge is determining how to implement the idea from a technology perspective.
Chris Rouw of Far Reach Technologies will present on how he worked with Matt Dunning, owner of Talk To Me Technologies, to create a new product using new technologies. Matt, a speech language pathologist, had an idea to create a web-based "board-making" tool which would allow teachers, parents, and therapists to easily create communication boards. This new tool, called Pogo Boards, is scheduled to launch in September.
Matt had several great ideas for the product and a traditional ASP.NET website would not suffice. After some research and trials it was decided to implement the product using Silverlight along with the Entity Framework. The result is a web-based tool with the functionality of a Windows application!
The presentation will include an introduction by Matt Dunning and the business case for Pogo Boards. A demonstration of the Pogo Boards tool will follow. Chris will then discuss the architecture of the tool and share some lessons learned about working with Silverlight and XAML.
