Hi! The last meet-up actually didn't happen. I had pneumonia and it fell apart. Sorry about that, folks. Consequently - I'm going to keep the same topic, and general outline.
In the meantime, we've had a bunch of new members join. This is kind of short notice - just a week - but let's shoot for it anyway. I'll schedule something for early February as well, so if you can't make this one you can make that one.
Topic: Managing Jobs and Productivity!
Description: How do you get into 'the zone' and stay there? How do you handle scheduling, client management, distractions, last minute requests, etc. This isn't a code-focussed meeting per say, although I'm sure we'll bust out some source eventually.
Extras:
Since our last meeting, I met with a new member one on one to discuss his app idea. Bring any ideas you have about polling external sources of data such as XML or even - shudder - scraping HTML pages. I'll let him fill you in.
Last meetup Jayse shared his on-the-fly thumbnail generator. I'm asking if someone would be willing to volunteer to share a piece of code they're proud of - or that has something different about it - and speak for about 15 to 20 minutes on it.
Anyone with Zend Framework opinions or experience is encouraged to speak a bit. Keith had a question about it last time.
I also have an esoteric question about model object methods vs. their parent class methods - in regards to which should be static, and return an object vs. which should be on the object instance themselves.
Bonus Homework: Bring a silly code story involving the holidays. Goofy site redesign, etc.
Time: 7:30 to 9:PM

Stack Overflow Podcast: SE Podcast #27 – Dave Winer
Published 9 years ago, running time 1h2m
Jeff & Joel are joined today by Dave Winer, who’s upset that we don’t have a jingle to start the show! He “invented” (well, pioneered, really) the XML-RPC protocol. Dave tells us the story of how and why the protocol came to be. Right now, Dave’s working on a “magnificent symphony of software
