Every Tuesday from May 18th onwards until I run out of twisted horror movies to watch I will be hosting a movie meet up at our house. The aim of the meetup is to introduce some of the most vile, disgusting, and twisted horror films every committed to celluloid. These are films that people have always heard about but may have never actually seen, films that are banned outright in other countries besides our glorious United States, things that contained footage that would be illegal in today's film industry. Why are we interested in seeing these movies? Because they are outside of that mainstream that we are all so familiar with, because the push the boundaries and make us wonder "why did someone make this film, and why can't I stop watching?" and because we all have a twisted side and it's better to vent that side in a healthy way than to bottle it up.

The inaugural meetup will be a cannibal double feature: The legendary Cannibal Holocaust, and almost as well known Cannibal Ferox. During the late 70s and early 80s there was a cannibal boom in Italy reminiscent of the Spaghetti Western boom from earlier. Started by Cannibal Ferox director Umberto Lenzi with The Man from Deep River and reaching its peak with Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust. Be warned before RSVP'ing for this meetup that these two films contains scenes of graphic violence, and part of their notoriety comes from some scenes of real violence against animals. I do not condone the acts portrayed within these films nor do I take particular pleasure in watching them, but nonetheless they are part of the film and the history of exploitation cinema. Feel free to look away and take refuge in the fact that many of the tribes people portraying the "cannibals" were actual natives and they did consume the animals after the takes were finished and the director's of both films have publicly stated that including these scenes for pure shock value was a huge mistake. Now if you still want to come you are more than welcome or if you want to skip it, no big deal, there's always the next week!
