XML for ER/Studio

This article was originally published in VSJ, which is now part of Developer Fusion.
Embarcadero’s data modeling tool, ER/Studio 7.5, offers support for XML schema generation, allowing data modelers and application developers to collaborate on service-oriented architecture (SOA) initiatives. It also includes an enhanced conversion utility to improve the precision when migrating data models from tools such as CA ERwin Data Modeler and Sybase PowerDesigner.

These new features are intended to give data modelers and architects greater flexibility and control by extending the level of customisation and validation throughout the application and database lifecycle. They allow data architects to collaborate more effectively with other parties managing SOA implementations and data governance programmes by defining, deploying and reusing the standards traditionally used for database management.

A new wizard helps build custom XML schemas directly from a logical or physical data model, allowing data architects to incorporate the same standards in SOA development that they previously used for building databases.
