The Palm Pre 2 is expected to hit stores in Europe today, complete with the latest version of HP’s WebOS (since they bought out Palm). The Pre 2 hardware itself is expected to bring it in line with current devices on other platforms, for example the HTC Desire / Nexus One and the Windows Phone 7 devices; it will have a 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera and slide-out full keyboard.
Meanwhile, WebOS 2 is bringing a whole new range of features that consumers and developers alike will be able to take advantage of. HP Synergy will connect contacts from e-mail with your social networking profiles, much like the current Android operating system allows developers to leverage. The OS will feature an “Exhibition” mode, allowing developers to build applications designed to run specifically when the Pre 2 is in its Touchstone dock; it also features multitasking (the proper kind, that is), and numerous other user-friendly features.
We wrote about the great features developers can expect back in early September, when a limited release of the WebOS 2 SDK was made available. These include Node.js service creation, PDK plugins allowing developers to tap into native code on the device, and more.
