VB.Net vs Linux/Unix

How do I build a (vb).net application that works on a Linux or Unix platform ?
    Is this possible ?
Is the .net framework supported by Linux/Unix (or in the near future) ?
Does anyone has information on this case ?
I know there is an open source implementation of .NET, not written by Microsoft.
    Example the 'Mono Project': http://www.go-mono.com.
Anyone with experience in running/writing .net applications on Linux/Unix ?
