tracking a loggeg on user in a web application

hello my name is femi ibitolu from nigeria. i have benn programming for six months now, but recently i had a difficulty in a web application i am working on now. i created my membership table in sqlserver enterprise. also i programmatically created login for users and registeration new commers(thats on my login page). now i want that as the registered user logs in and is taken to the index page, it should display the user name in the top corner of the header.
