authenticate against ldap

    i have to enhance an xml script and have to authenticate against ldap.i have to write a code inside xml file to authenticate user  against ldap.
    I have to enhance the existing xml script and xml scripts are mapped to java components .but i dont have to touch java to do authentication.
    can we achive the authentication only by using xml?
    pls help me .
