Replacement for MSComm VBX in VB.NET?

I'm trying to find out what will replace the MSCOMM VBX control in VB.NET (if anything). Microsoft's documentation for VB6 on this control says "with the release of .NET this topic is no longer being updated". Any pointers to how VB.NET will allow access to the serial port on a PC would be appreciated.
