ShRUG aims to bring together Ruby enthusiasts in the Shenandoah Valley. All are welcome. There will be topics of interest to web developers and designers, programmers of all kinds, students of OO development in high-level languages, and anyone wanting to use Rails to create dateabase-backed MVC web applications. Whether you are an experienced Rubyist or a curious newbie, come to our meeting and share your interests in learning and using Ruby.

    We're going to have our 2nd monthly code hack tomorrow night -- apologies for not getting it scheduled earlier. We discussed at the last two meetups but I didn't set it up. In any case, bring your laptop and programming chops -- we're going to do a rubygame that opens the door to some actual computer science concepts. And gives you a chance to find life on other planets. Show up tomorrow to see what I mean NOTE: Bring dinner/etc if you want it.

    Search, Search, Search!Join us this week as Dan Funk talks about implementing search in your web application using Solr (/). Project Blacklight at the University of Viriginia library is one of Dan's most recent experiences with Solr and searching. And since Solr (and Lucene) is Java, even our Python, Java, and ASP friends will be able to use it!If you have experience with other search tools (eg thinking_sphinx, ferret, etc) prep some questions to stoke the discussion.

The folks at TransitionPoint have agreed to allow us to have our cake (or should I say Smokin' Pig BBQ and chicken) and eat it too. We will be meeting at TransitionPoint, we will be serving picnic fare from the Smokin' Pig on their deck and you will be able to bring you family and friends. There is also a very good chance that some beer from Calley's will be available.
