James first started this website when learning Visual Basic back in 1999 whilst studying his GCSEs. The site grew steadily over the years while being run as a hobby - to a regular monthly audience of over half a million unique developers. In July '08 James left his job as Head of Development at a digital agency in London to focus his energies on developerFusion full-time.
RoboHelp classic is the other main component that allows you to create the standard (classic!) help files. RoboHelp Classic features the same split windows, and the left hand pane incorporating the same powerful project window to that in RoboHelp HTML, making it easy to switch between the two. The right hand window integrates with Word 95/97/2000.
Unfortunately, because of the style of classic help using footnotes in RTF format to compile the help files means that creating classic help files are not as easy as it should be, and RoboHelp's reliance on Word adds cost, as well as added 'risk' to the development process - RoboHelp does not stop you from removing footer information that the compiler needs to correctly build your help file.
A great feature is WinHelp 2000 which allows you to integrate all the features of HTML help such as Graphic files and backgrounds, tables, JavaScript, VBScript and even Java Applets, but without requiring a new help format, or users having to learn a new help interface. HTML Popups can also be created using a RoboHelp ActiveX control, however bear in mind that many users security settings will not allow this.
