The London Lua user group covers all aspects of the Lua language.This talk looks at ljsyscall, a project to expose the Linux kernel interface to Lua, everything from files and sockets to networking, processes and timers. Using the new LuaJIT ffi interface makes this easier than it might otherwise be, and it has the performance of C code. This will cover what you can do, and some helpful hints about interfacing with C code.

By Cormac McGuireLast year a programmer friend of mine told me she was using vim to do all her development. Icouldn't understand why anyone would do that to themselves. Surely black screens for coding were for the 80s. Then I learned how to use it.

In this free talk from a Big Data expert, Tom Wilkie looks at Castle -- the core of the Acunu Data Platform.The standard Linux storage stack wasn’t designed for write-heavy big data workloads, nor is it well-suited to modern hardware: large, slow SATA disks, SSDs or many cores. Castle, an open-source project, is a ground-up overhauling of RAID, file systems, and the POSIX interface. It is released under the GPL and runs as part of the Linux kernel.

Daniel Lucraft will be giving a talk about the Redcar editor that he's has created and is developing. Redcar works on Linux, OSX and Windows and allows people to use Textmate Bundles. The GUI is built with JRuby and SWT and distributed as a Gem so it represents an interesting mix of technologies and platforms.
