VB.NET and PHP

I would like to be able to create a middle tier of application-specific and broader business objects using VB.NET and access these from a web user interface created using PHP.  Is is this possible?  If so, how?  (In case you're wondering, I work at a small educational research institute where the other software developer favors PHP.  We'd like to collaborate without adopting a single language to do so.)
