Strange TextBox problem

  Hi guys, got a bit of a strange problem.
  
  The problem revolves around an iframe with a meta refresh every 5 seconds, and a text box on the parent page.
  
  Every so often, when i'm typing in the textbox, and it happens to coincide with one of the meta refreshes from the iframe, what i'm typing comes out as vertical pipes for a brief time (see pic below).  It does revert back to what I typed, but this is a recreation of a problem I'm having with a site for a client, and because they're on a slower connection, they seem to get the problem more frequently.
  
  
  
  Does anyone have any idea how to solve this, or has come across a similar problem?
