In The Brain of Russel Winder: Python is a High Performance Programming Language - London, United Kingdom
happened 9 years ago
The High Performance Computing (HPC) folk are taking to Python in droves. They are not deserting Fortran and C++, they are still the languages in which the computation codes are written. Python is though the coordination language. Also Python is the language of writing user interfaces and performing data visualization. ctypes, SWIG, Boost.Python, and Cython all have roles to play in connecting Python to C++ and Fortran codes, making Python a far more flexible tool than Maple, Mathematica, etc.

C++ programming for GPU - , United States
happened 9 years ago
Organised by New York C++ Developers Group
GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) have proven themselves to be outstanding numeric coprocessors for CPUs, sometimes offering spectacular gains (x10, x100, ...) in application performance. But programming GPUs -- and emerging many-core architectures -- brings with it many challenges. C++ is the language of choice for GPU programming. And if you are a practicing C++ programmer, GPUs are most definitely in your future! This meetup will help bring you up to speed.

Technology Show & Tell for Things That are C++-Related - Austin, United States
happened 9 years ago
Organised by The Austin C/C++ Meetup Group
For the past few months, I have floated the idea around to start a "show and tell" for things that are C++-related. Unlike the more social/relaxed BB Rovers meetups, these would involve laptops and presentation slides. Presentation topics could range from one's own projects to just something cool you found on the Internet. My apartment building has a conference room with 14 chairs, whiteboards, and a large wall-mounted display that we can use for this purpose.

On C++ study groups - , United States
happened 9 years ago
Organised by New York C++ Developers Group
I will suggest to have at least two study groups. Meetings will be based on the participant's experience, I don't think it will be optimal to lump everybody in one room (I'm not sure if a C++ pro will like talk to discuss about hello world)I think one group should focus in language centric topics and another group should focus more in software development using C

C++ 0x libraries (Part 2 of the talk from July) - New York, United States

In The Brain of Russel Winder: You Need to Know Python - London, United Kingdom
happened 9 years ago
In this world of a plethora of programming languages, where new ones seem to appear on a weekly basis, C, C++ and Python have been, and remain, the main non-Java Platform languages. Even on the Java Platform there is Python, in the form of Jython. Gnome emphasizes C, C++ and Python, as does Canonical and many other organizations. The Python Software Foundation is definitely pro Python. Why is Python so "front and center" and high profile?
