wininet freezes app

    I'm using wininet to connect to an ftp server and upload images.  It does this just fine, but while trying to connect and upload the app freezes until the operation is complete.  Is there any way to stop this?  It's kind ofa pain because it has an auto timer, so you have have the cam update every X seconds.  But with it freezing like this, it delays the timer by however long it takes to do the required operations.
